Know Everything About Timber and Oak Flooring

Wooden floors add a class to your existing home or office. This is quite a bit of an investment. A lot of people replicate the look using laminates but it can hardly come close to the elegance that either timber or oak flooring gives.

Oak timber flooring is the choice of leading architects and designers. You will find that there are a lot of companies that offer to install a quality timer and oak flooring.

Engineered Timber Wood Flooring

Engineered Timber wood floors are manufactured using multiple layers of timber veneers. The layers that you can’t see can be of the same or of different wood. This kind of manufacturing will expand or contract less than solid wood flooring due to climatic changes.

Some of The Features of Timber Floors Are:

  1. They are quite light in weight,

  2. They have poor fire resistance.

  3. They have poor sound insulation properties.

  4. They are expensive in most parts of the world.

  5. Prone to termite infestation

Note That There Are Four Elements of Flooring:

  1. Firstly, the floor boards,

  2. Then the bridging joists: The bridging joists support the floor boards

  3. Thirdly the binders,

  4. And lastly the girders that holds the binders. This increases the rigidity of the floor and to decrease the overall depth of the floor.

Basically, Timber Floors Can Be Categorized into Three Types:

  1. Single joist timber floors.

  2. Double Joists Timber Flooring

  3. Framed or Triple Joists Timber Floor

Single joist timber floors: These floors are the simplest type of timber flooring used in residential buildings. The floor consists of wooden joists, placed 30 to 40 cm apart and supported on end walls, over which timber planking or boarding is fixed. Note that the width of joists is kept about 5 to 8 cm wide. The depth of the joists is determined by the formula:

    Depth (cm) = (4 x span in meters) + 5 cm.

The End of the Joists Is Nailed to The Wall Plates:

  1. Double Joists Timber Flooring is much sturdier and stronger.

  2. This is used for spans between 3.5 to 7.5 meters.

  3. The bridging joists are supported on intermediate wooden supports, and these are called binders.

  4. The overall depth of the flooring is increased.

  5. The loads of bridging joists are first transferred to the binders and through them to the end walls in the form of highly concentrated loads.

  6. This is termed as a disadvantage of this type of flooring.

Framed or Triple Joists Timber Floor is suitable for areas that are bigger than 7.50 m, in which intermediate supports, are provided for the binders. These are called girders.

Oak Flooring gives an extraordinary look to the interiors and it is durable. Manufacturer offers three to five layers of hardwood.

Some of The Features of the Oak Flooring Are:

  1. Not affected by seasonal & temperature changes

  2. Harder, denser and greener than the plywood core used in traditional engineered hardwoods

  3. Environment friendly

Where can these oak floorings be used? Everywhere! They are bound to increase the value of any place. Some of the areas of application are listed below.
