Challenges:
The challenges involved by precast concrete panel installers include working of personnel at heights, cranes are used and utility of heavy plant. Precautions are required for moving and putting the various units.
Precautions to Be Taken:
The precautions that need to be taken by precast concrete panel installers include the method of assembly and erecting it, give temporary support, make connections in the structure and joints, determine and stick to allowed tolerances, rigging related, storage at the site, the required crane , clearance to carry out the task, accurate dimensions to be determined and followed, inspection after completion of units, conditions and planning of locations where units are to be placed.
Checklist of the precautions needs to be made for effective precast concrete panel installers to be successful. The storage ground must meet some conditions namely, it should be hard, of the same level, spotlessly clean and plain ground. The units are to be stored so that they are removed using first in first out sequence.
Installation Process:
The installation includes vertical as well as a horizontal precast unit. There are several good practices which are expected to be followed by precast concrete panel installers.
Good Practices to Be Followed:
The good practices expected by precast concrete panel installers are to check the accuracy of offset lines, check shim plate level and its stability, alignment and position of bars from where installation is to begin, secure backer rods, check the condition of the precast unit, ensure all joints are sealed, support of beam elements during hoisting is required at two locations and so on.
Consultants:
The advice that consultants included in the team as precast concrete panel installers offer a definition of the installation process and plan to be followed for timely delivery. They also indicate the relevant requirements of leveling pads and shims. Installation of braces at a particular angle needs to be identified.
The brace should be supported with a crane before the top bolts are removed and then they need to be lowered during the completion of the installation process.
Precautions to Be Taken:
Gaskets need to be handled carefully and damage or deformation is to be prevented. All surfaces should be clean without any imperfections. To allow easy fixing of gaskets, oil and lubricants are to be used. Gaskets should not be stretched while we are installing as it may damage them.
While installing, it is preferred to go in for aesthetics by aligning the exterior and interior face of units which might go out of a plane. Therefore, these need to be taken care of. To prevent a problem of panel installation and interferences, tolerance has to be properly decided.
The study of a layout of the spacing between joints needs to be planned and decided before installation is done. Adequate values of clearances should be done so that problems during installation are prevented.
Advantages:
Some of the advantages offered include less waste and debris, better utilization of space at the site of construction, good work environment for the personnel involved at the site for installation, easier and cost effective cleaning. They also take less time to install, less costly, they are flexible and can be customized. They can also be reassembled after dismantling if need be.
The panels are continuously supported by bedding strips in few instances thereby helping in quick installation and this needs less tolerance of manufacturing.
The units are made in such a way that leveling screws can be adjusted after installation.
Installation is a challenging process, therefore, needs to be planned well to incorporate all unforeseen situations that may occur at the construction site. Once planned well, the project can be executed successfully in one go.
