  2. Evacuated tube collectors: These are similar to flat-plate systems; the only difference being that the sunlight is collected using a series of glass tubes that have a vacuum seal. This allows more efficient transfer of solar energy but they are most expensive also.

  3. Heat pump systems: In this system solar heat is drawn from the air and then used to heat the water. This system uses some electricity to pump in the hot air but it is negligible.

Use the Government Rebate

Some state governments offer rebates if you decide to get solar hot water service. To find these energy efficiency incentive schemes, you will have to check the Australian government site Your Energy Savings (YES) and search the rebate page for relevant information. Alternatively, you can also get the information from the manufacturer’s or seller’s website. Usually, the company taking care of the installations will inform you if you are eligible for any rebate. The federal government will also provide an upfront financial incentive for buying and installing solar-powered water heating system. The incentive will depend on the efficiency of the system and the region you live in.

Permissions for Installation

Installation of solar-powered hater heating system is more complex than a conventional electric or gas system. Make sure you hire professionals for its installation.You might also need to check with your local council about building regulations. Although the council will not object there may be certain regulations that need to be kept in mind. For instance, noise regulations cover the noise from the system. The installer should install the hot water system keeping in mind all the regulations. It is also not always possible to install the individual unit in apartments.
